The difference between live rosin and distillate THC drinks is the extract inside. Distillate is a refined extract. Live rosin is pressed from fresh frozen plant material without solvents. Both can end up in a ready-to-drink bottle, but the process behind each one differs.
Kronton lists live rosin on the label of every Elixir flavor. The sections below cover how each extract is made, how it gets into a drink, and where the extract type shows up on a label. Shoppers and store owners can use the same steps to compare any bottle on a shelf.
What distillate is
Distillate is a refined plant extract. Makers first pull a crude extract from dried plant material. They then heat and separate it in stages to isolate one main compound.
The refining strips out most of the other plant compounds. That includes most of the aromatic compounds that give a plant its scent. The result is a clear or pale oil with little flavor of its own.
Many drink makers choose distillate because it is uniform and neutral. Flavor in a distillate THC drink usually comes from added flavorings and the drink base.
What live rosin is
Live rosin is a solventless extract. The word live means the plants are frozen fresh at harvest. They are not dried and stored first.
- Fresh plants are frozen soon after harvest.
- The resin glands are separated from the plant, often with ice water and screens.
- The collected resin is pressed with heat and pressure.
- The pressed oil is gathered as live rosin.
No chemical solvent is used at any step. Because the process skips heavy refining, more of the original plant compounds stay in the extract. A live rosin drink starts from this less processed oil.
How each extract ends up in a drink
Plant oils do not mix with water on their own. Drink makers blend the extract into a form that spreads through a liquid base. This step applies to both distillate and live rosin.
- Distillate: a refined, neutral oil that blends into the base without adding much taste.
- Live rosin: a less processed oil that carries more of the plant's own character into the bottle.
- Both: the finished drink is then flavored, filled and sealed.
Kronton describes its Elixir line as ready-to-drink and shelf-stable. The flavors that state a size list 375ml, or 12.68 fl oz, on the label facts.
How labels show the extract
The extract type usually appears in the ingredient list or the product description. Look for plain terms such as distillate, live rosin, rosin or extract.
- Live rosin or solventless points to a pressed, solvent-free extract.
- Distillate points to a refined extract.
- A generic term such as hemp extract may not name the method at all.

Questions and answers
Is live rosin the same as distillate?
No. Distillate is a refined extract that strips most plant compounds. Live rosin is pressed without solvents from fresh frozen plant material.
Does a live rosin drink taste different from a distillate drink?
Distillate is largely neutral, so flavor comes mostly from added flavorings. Live rosin keeps more of the plant's aromatic compounds, which can carry into the drink.
How can I tell which extract a THC drink uses?
Check the ingredient list and product description for terms such as live rosin, solventless or distillate. A generic term like hemp extract may not name the method.
Does Kronton use live rosin or distillate?
Kronton lists live rosin on the label facts of every Elixir flavor. That covers Cotton Candy, Strawberry Cough Splash and Mango Slushie.
Where are Kronton lab reports?
Each Elixir page has a lab report link inside the product description. Check the product name, format and lot or sample reference against the package.
